Emergency replacement of seized fuel injection pump plungers and barrels on main engine units 1, 2, 3, and 6, including in-situ tooling fabrication and successful ABS Class-approved engine trial.
During the testing of the Main Engine before berthing operation, it was reported by the vessel that unit No.1-,2-,3- and 6unit fuel injection pump plunger& barrels are in seized condition.
We have boarded the vessel, and it was noted the seized plunger and barrel were not able to be removed as per details in the instruction manual. A special tool was fabricated for turning the plunger inside the casing and pump body.
All four unit’s plungers and barrels were replaced with new spares. The engine was tried out satisfactorily in presence of the ABS Class surveyor and found working normally.
