Diesel Generator – Piston and liner replacement, connecting rod bearings inspection

Replacement of seized piston and liner, repair of valve mechanisms, and inspection of connecting rod bearings on No.2 diesel generator following abnormal noise detection—completed with full engine testing and restoration to operational condition.

9 February 2024

During testing of No.2 Diesel generator up to rated load, it was reported that abnormal noise coming from No.4 unit.

10 February 2024

Further investigation after opening revealed that the piston and line were in seized condition, valve operating mechanisms damaged, connecting rod bearings damaged, and minor marking on the crank pin.

We have assisted in removing the seized piston from the position. For safety measures connecting rod bearings of other units were inspected after the removal of big end bearings from the location.

Damaged parts were replaced with new spares and the engine tested satisfactorily.
